After selecting your gown, selecting your wedding site and reception location are the next most time-consuming and exciting decisions you will make.
Many variables will help with the decision. Do you want a wedding site and reception location in one place? If not, the reception location will need to be in somewhat close proximity to the wedding site or church. Naturally ambiance plays a large role, as does cost.
Would you prefer an outdoor or indoor setting? Do you want a large banquet hall for your theme wedding that will hold 500 guests? Is your ideal location an historic site, a mansion, or a church hall? Do you want a facility that is all inclusive?
You will need to start early for best selection if your wedding is August, September, or October here in the Bay Area. May, June and July are also popular, but more available.
Some of the questions you will want to ask include:
How far in advance can you reserve the site? What are the time restrictions? How many receptions will they hold that day? What is the minimum and maximum number of guests the room holds? You will not want a sparse room, nor a crowded dance floor. Is there a separate charge for the room, or building? Do they have a preferred caterers’ list, or can you bring your own caterer? What are the music restrictions? When can you begin decorating? Is there enough space for a receiving line?
Some newlyweds have two receptions; one in the city of the wedding and another across the country for the second set of parents, or for friends, who could not travel to the wedding site. It might be fun to have a very formal hotel reception in one area and then enjoy a special informal relaxed restaurant reception in the other.
