Born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, Bertina Mitchell was introduced to the world of music by her father and began studying the harp at age twelve. She graduated with honors from the Bulgarian Conservatory of Music in Sofia, performed with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded with the Bulgarian National Radio Orchestra.
In 1993 she moved to the United States. Ms. Mitchell received her Master’s degree in 1997 from Indiana University where she studied with Susann McDonald. Upon graduation, she moved to the Bay Area.
At present she performs with the Napa Valley Symphony and the Marin Symphony. She is the principal harpist at the Mendocino Music Festival. In addition to teaching harp at the Music Conservatory at San Domenico School in San Anselmo and at her private studio in Novato, Ms. Mitchell gives solo recitals and performs regularly at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in San Francisco.
Bertina Mitchell enjoys an extremely active career as a professional harpist. As a soloist or in combination with flute, viola, cello, violin or voice. Bertina’s distinctive style and rich repertoire bring memorable music to each event.
