... you know how to dance. Bridal couples start with a first dance. So let's discuss the first dance.

Months ahead of the wedding, the bridal couple will plan their first dance. Brides will want this dance to be performed well, with no embarrassment. Brides want the wedding to be perfect. A boring first dance is unacceptable.

The bridal couple will usually come to the studio for an evaluation lesson. This lesson will allow the couple to meet their instructor. Music is important; most times the couple has already selected the song. It's important that the music is dance music, not a Beethoven sonata. After all, you don't want to put your guests to sleep. Its important you feel comfortable with your instructor too.

Your instructor will teach you both a few simple steps to see how fast you learn. The bride will learn to follow, and the groom to lead. After your sample lesson, you'll be meeting with a supervisor, so you can discuss lesson times, and your wedding budget. Its important you come for lessons at least twice a week to learn to dance.

Many couples ask about music selection. Instructors use iPods, so you can either bring your iPod to your lesson, or request studio music. Typical dance music includes rumba, foxtrot, waltz, tango, and swing. Hip hop is useless, as is disco.

Instructors working with bridal couples have special training in choreography. Bridal couples have a favorite song, and expect to dance to their song. Therefore, choreography is important. If you come to the studio 3 months before your wedding, and you learn to dance well, you'll get a standing ovation. If you come in a week before your wedding – well, you get the point.

It's very important the dance studio has space for your lesson. If you go into a small room, you won't be able to move. If you're on a crowded floor, you'll be easily distracted. The best studio will have ample space, good floors, and a friendly staff. You don't want your instructor drilling you.

In summary, learning to dance is very personal. A good instructor will encourage and motivate you. You'll carry your dancing with you through the rest of your lives
